I have criticized and given the Blair Witch project a 3 star review because of the realism from the characters and setting as well as the pace of the film.
The Realism
The acting and the cast in the film exceeded my expectations for a film not set in the modern era which was filmed and set in the late 90’s, an example of this is when the character of Heather Donahue was shouting in a painful and frightened way for the search of another character called Joshua Leonard which was lost and kidnapped.
The characters in the film have fantastic dialogue as it has a lot of scenes of the character shouting for each other as well as each other in a harsh manner.
The Pace
The pace on the film does let it down as it is presented and was made in a very repetitive and similar layout throughout the whole film until they get chased into a dark mysterious house where the film ends off, with the characters maybe dying or escaping away from the house and the Blair witch, which also gives a sense of terror and tension.
I would have given the film a 5 star review if there were some more realistic tense scenes and not the characters being argumentative with each other as it feels like that is all they do in the whole film.
Although this is an issue the Blair witch project did an incredible job of creating tension and fear to the viewer by making them feel on the edge of their seat.
